The Hearing
The public side of our fight with the applicant and Council over the huge Cleanfill proposed in our beautiful backyard is about to start! Here's an update on some of the important issues for your information.
Hearing Dates: The dates for the joint hearing of submissions to Rodney Council and Auckland Regional Council are tentatively set down from the 23-26 and 29 June- 1 July at the North Harbour Stadium. These dates could change, but this is the latest advice we have from the Councils. We need all of you who have said "yes" to present your submission at the Hearing to put these dates in your diary. It is very important that as many of you as possible come to show the depth of feeling in our community against this proposal. This is the important part of the process! So please turn up and make your concerns known to the independent commissioners who will rule on this application. The Stop The Cleanfill Action Group committee has been working very hard all these months (feels like years) to gather excellent technical data opposing the cleanfill, but we also need the voices of concerned citizens to help. Numbers count - we need to make a strong impression of our opposition to this cleanfill and one of the best ways to impress is with many people giving passionate submissions.Professional Expert Evidence: It is a well documented fact that to make an impact with Hearing Commissioners , evidence from experts who can demonstrate the "more than minor" effects of a project is essential. Your STCAG Committee have spent considerable time (and money) engaging top experts and legal and planning professionals to prepare a stong case to present as the group submission at the Hearing, in addition to individual/private submitters.
Submissions Preparation Workshop: We are holding a workshop to assist you in preparing for the hearing. We will also be able to explain the procedures and what happens and what is expected of the speakers at the Hearing. The date for the workshop is Saturday , 6 June , at the Waitoki Hall from 2 – 4pm. PLEASE COME!
Membership Fees and Donations - our "fighting fund" We have appreciated the financial support of a number of local residents and all the people that have become members of STCAG. Funds raised to date have already been spent on the professional fees for some of the expert consultants that are engaged for the Hearing. There is going to be significant additional costs for our team of experts, Legal and Planning representation at the Hearing - this is all necessary to ensure we are successful in halting this application. The overall budget from now on through the hearing process will be approximately $30,000. This of course does not include any of the residents or STCAG committees time but only those external experts required to present the communities case. Please consider making a contribution to this fighting fund - stopping this application will benefit the whole community!
Thanks again for supporting our efforts to stop this cleanfill.
