RESOURCE CONSENT HAS BEEN GRANTED

Proposed Cleanfill – 297 Whitehills Rd

The Judge Assessed the Application and Determined the Consent Conditions

After many months of tireless work by the local community and our speacialists, we have forced the developer and Council to take the issues seriously with this proposal and to place well thought out, stringent conditions on the consent.

The developer has now been granted consent to operate the cleanfill, however has a number of issues have to be resolved first; upgrade the Pine Valley Road and Kahikatea Flat Road intersection, construct an intersection at the Kahikatea Flat Road entrance, construct the sealed road to the site, and constrcut a bridge across the Waipapakara Stream. The developer must also set up weather and dust monitorng stations and utilise an x-ray machine to x-ray every load to make sure it is safe cleanfill.

The site will be fully landscaped, and the developer will also need to prepare a number of management plans to deal with environmental issues such as dust, noise, landscape issues and sediment and erosion.

The Community Liaison Group has been formed and held its first meeting. This group consists of 12 local residents, a Council representative, developer representatives and an iwi representative. The group will meet at least every 6 months to discuss the cleanfill, its progress and any issues.

The developer has acknowledged that they are currently in negotiation with a number of large development companies in the area who might be willing to enter a contract with the developer to supply fill. The developer stated that if a contract cannot be sought then the development will not be feasible and they will not commence works.

We will keep you posted with regular updates from the Community Liaison Group, or you can contact us with any questions you have.

We have attached the two consent documents below for your information.

PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT

In embarking on this Appeal process two things are particularly important to us:

1. Action Group Membership

It is important that this Committee can continue to demonstrate strong community support for STCAG by having a continuing strong membership base. Over the past two years, many people made donations and joined this Group and we ask that you renew your membership for this year or, if you haven’t already, join the group. We represent a significant number of affected and concerned residents in the wider community. Numbers count!

2. Financial Support

We ask you to contribute again to the fighting fund, to help protect your own properties and the community from this proposed cleanfill. If many give a modest amount each then we will be able to continue the fight without the burden continuing to fall on a few locals only. Compared to the impact on our property values alone, and not to mention the traffic, visual and noise issues for the area, a modest contribution is a wise investment. Click Here to find out several different payment options for you to choose from. We appreciate your contribution and support. Don’t forget this is not for any particular individual but for the whole community. If you have any questions or wish to discuss the issues further please contact any member of the committee. We would also welcome expressions of interest for new members to join the committee.
